I learned, last week, that my friend Annie earned a spot in this year's NYC marathon. She has been training very hard to prepare for the marathon and I am excited for her, even a bit jealous!

So just as she begins ratcheting up her training she was deployed to assist in Hurricane Ike. You see, Annie is in the Coast Guard as a public affairs specialist. She will be working hard to ensure the correct messages get out to the citizens and residents of the affected area. She will also be documenting the desctruction and response to the destruction.

Good luck Annie. Keep running!
